Vietnam – Sa Pả, Lào Cai

In this photo series I reflect the people of hill tribes and the life in the high mountains of Sa Pa, Vietnam. It’s located in the Hoàng Liên Sơn Mountains at 1,600 meters altitude near the Chinese border in the Lao Cai border area. The trails around Sapa connect the villages of the hill tribes. We immerse ourselves in the culture of the Hmong, the Dao or the Tay, who are at home here. On the way  children playing barefoot on the clay paths. The Hmong has been cultivating the high altitude rice terraces in the mountains for more than a hundred years. Sapa’s surrounding villages with the beautiful rice terraces are astonishing.

The ethnic minorities offer visitors to to know their way of life.

During a break on the river we start children on the way to school, which go every day several miles through the mountains by foot. Beautiful nature, breathtaking views over the valley and amazingly nice people. Such places are not many in the world, Sapa is one of them.
